What is HDR / Exposure Blending
HDR or High Dynamic Range in real estate photography is where several images are taken from the exact same location where there is a large variance between the dark and bright elements of a scene and blending them into a single image which captures as many details as possible as can be seen in the example below
What is Flambient
The term “Flambient” is a play on words. FLash + AMBIENT = FLAMBIENT.
It is a technique where images are taken using both flash and ambient lighting to produce extremely accurate colour. Additional flash images can also be used to give additional detail through windows, known as a “Window Pull”.
Which is better, Flambient or HDR
I wish that was an easy question to answer, both have their advantages and disadvantages.
HDR is normally slightly quicker on location and you just need your camera & tripod. Flambient does require additional images to be taken with a flash so you will need additional equipment (flash, trigger, more flashes perhaps, softboxes or modifiers for example)
Flambient done right gives amazing colour rendering, but done wrong it’s difficult to correct once you’ve left the location, get the angles of flash images wrong and you can add horrible shadows or over-expose one area and under-expose another.
I am always happy to provide a test edit on HDR or Flambient (Or both if you want) so we can both see what the other provides.
What can you expect from me as an editor?
I look to build a relationship with photographers around the world to provide a range of editing services, I offer a test package where I will edit any two images of yours so you can see for yourself exactly what I provide.
Some photographers want brighter images, some want darker more moody images, some want strong window pulls, others want a softer window pull, all of these can be accomodated, you just need to let me know what you need, ideally send some examples, or if we do a test image you can provide feedback to ensure you know exactly what you’re getting.
I work to turn around finished images within 12-16 hours, I am based in the UK, so if you’re in America or Australia I am just getting started when your day ends (or has already ended), as such if you can get me your images by 7 am (UK time) you will most likely get the images returned before lunchtime (of your time zone) the next day.
Rush jobs can always be accommodated, as can weekend jobs, but these may involve an additional cost, if you need any of these options please contact me first to ensure that your needs can be accomodated.
To avoid being overloaded with editing jobs I typically only take on a limited amount of jobs per day so please contact me to discuss your needs, you may be doing most of your editing yourself and just need the occasional outsourced edit done from time to time, or you may have more regular needs, I am happy to discuss both.
Images can be returned in JPEG or TIFF format as needed, I typically use Dropbox and can setup a shared folder where you can just upload your images and I can use the same folder to return them back to you.
What does it cost?
For a 3-bracket HDR the cost starts at £0.80 (GBP)
For a Flambient, based on 1 ambient and up to 2 flash shots and an additional window pull, the cost starts at £0.80 (GBP)
With that, you can expect edited images to be returned, corrected for exposure with verticals/horizontals aligned as necessary, a few minor items can be retouched if necessary (wall hooks can be removed for example) within that cost.
Sky replacements and additional retouching can all be arranged, just drop me a message and we’ll discuss.
I provide an invoice from my card processing company (Sum Up) that you can simply click a link and make payment using a credit or debit card or if you want you can make a direct bank transfer, whichever is easiest for you.
What next?
That’s easy, drop me a message (Email or WhatsApp will get the quickest response) and we’ll discuss your needs and arrange for me to do a test edit for you
